DutchAfrikaansspeaking refers to the historical and contemporary use of Dutch in South Africa and Namibia, particularly in relation to the development and existence of Afrikaans. Afrikaans, one of the official languages of South Africa, evolved from Dutch dialects spoken by settlers who arrived in the Cape Colony from the 17th century onwards. Initially, Dutch was the primary language of administration and education. However, over time, the language spoken by the Dutch colonists underwent significant changes due to influences from indigenous languages, Malay, and other European languages. This evolving dialect gradually became distinct from European Dutch, eventually leading to the standardization of Afrikaans in the early 20th century.
While Afrikaans is now a separate and widely spoken language, Dutch continued to be used by some
