Duroplastiset

Duroplastiset refers to a class of thermosetting polymers. These materials undergo an irreversible chemical change when heated, forming a rigid, cross-linked structure. Once cured, duroplastiset materials cannot be remelted or reshaped, unlike thermoplastics which can be repeatedly softened and molded by heat. The curing process involves the formation of strong covalent bonds between polymer chains, creating a three-dimensional network.

Common examples of duroplastiset include bakelite, epoxy resins, and melamine formaldehyde. Bakelite, one of the earliest synthetic plastics, was widely used for electrical insulators and household items. Epoxy resins are known for their excellent adhesion and mechanical strength, making them valuable in coatings, adhesives, and composite materials. Melamine formaldehyde is used in laminates, dinnerware, and coatings due to its hardness and resistance to heat and scratching.

The properties of duroplastiset materials can be tailored by varying the monomers and curing agents used. Generally, they exhibit high thermal stability, good chemical resistance, and excellent electrical insulation properties. Their rigidity and dimensional stability make them suitable for applications requiring structural integrity and resistance to deformation under stress or heat. However, their inability to be remelted makes recycling more challenging compared to thermoplastics.
