Duftintensität refers to the perceived strength or power of a fragrance. It is a subjective sensory experience that can vary significantly between individuals and is influenced by a combination of factors.

The concentration of aromatic compounds within a perfume or scented product is a primary determinant of its intensity. Higher concentrations generally lead to a stronger scent. This is often indicated by terms like Eau de Cologne, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum, and Parfum, with each representing a different level of fragrance oil concentration and thus, varying intensity.

Beyond chemical composition, the volatility of the fragrance molecules plays a crucial role. More volatile compounds evaporate and reach the olfactory receptors faster, contributing to a more immediate and intense scent. Conversely, less volatile compounds may release their aroma more slowly, resulting in a subtler or longer-lasting but perhaps less intense initial impression.

The way a fragrance interacts with the wearer's skin chemistry can also affect its perceived intensity. Factors such as skin temperature, oiliness, and pH can alter the evaporation rate and the way scent molecules are perceived.

Environmental conditions also play a part. In warmer temperatures, fragrances tend to diffuse more readily, increasing their perceived intensity. High humidity can also enhance scent perception. Conversely, dry or cool environments may diminish the intensity of a fragrance.

Finally, individual olfactory perception, influenced by genetics, past experiences, and even current physiological state, means that what one person perceives as a strong scent, another might find mild.
