Dryliner

A dryliner is a tradesperson who specializes in the installation of plasterboard, also known as drywall or gypsum board. This material is used to create internal walls and ceilings in buildings. The process involves fixing plasterboard sheets to timber or metal stud framing. Once the sheets are in place, the dryliner then tapes and fills the joints between the boards with jointing compound, a process known as taping and jointing or mudding. This creates a smooth, seamless surface ready for decoration, such as painting or wallpapering.

Dryliners also undertake tasks such as installing suspended ceilings, which are secondary ceilings hung below the primary structural ceiling. They may also be involved in the installation of metal stud partitions, which are non-load-bearing walls constructed from metal framing, onto which plasterboard is fixed. The work requires a good understanding of measurements, the ability to work at heights, and precision to achieve clean, straight lines and smooth finishes. The trade is essential in modern construction for creating internal spaces efficiently and to a high standard.
