Dressbarn was a women's clothing retailer founded in 1962 by brothers Arthur and Elliot Stone. The company's first store opened in Stamford, Connecticut, and it grew to become a national chain with hundreds of locations across the United States. Dressbarn was known for offering a wide range of apparel, accessories, and shoes at affordable prices, targeting a broad demographic of women. The brand focused on providing fashionable yet practical clothing suitable for everyday wear, work, and special occasions.

Over the years, Dressbarn operated under various parent companies. In 2019, Ascena Retail Group, which also owned brands like Ann Taylor and LOFT, acquired Dressbarn. The company aimed to rebrand and modernize Dressbarn to better compete in the evolving retail landscape. However, after a period of underperformance and strategic review, Ascena Retail Group announced in early 2020 that it would be closing all Dressbarn stores. The closures were completed by the end of that year, marking the end of the Dressbarn brand as a brick-and-mortar retail presence. The company cited shifting consumer preferences and challenges within the traditional retail sector as contributing factors to its eventual shutdown.
