Dramë

Dramë is the Albanian term for drama, a form of literature and performing art that presents human experiences and conflicts through dialogue and action, typically intended for stage presentation. A dramatic work can exist as a play, a screenplay, or other scripted form, and is usually organized into acts and scenes with emphasis on interaction between characters.

The word drama derives from the Greek drāma, meaning action or deed, and entered Albanian via historical contact with other languages. In Albanian usage, dramë covers classical theatre as well as modern dramatic writings and screen works, including tragedies, comedies, and contemporary dramas.

Drama relies on dialogue, character development, and thematic progression. Traditional forms include tragedy and comedy, while modern drama often blends genres and can address social, political, or psychological topics. Typical structural elements are plot, setting, character, conflict, and resolution; on stage, directions for movement, lighting, and blocking guide performance.

The Albanian dramatic tradition expanded during the late 19th and 20th centuries, paralleling national and cultural developments. Today, dramë remains a central term in Albanian literature and media, used to refer to stage plays as well as screen dramas produced for theatre, film, and television.
