Doportunitats

Doportunitats is a nonstandard spelling that appears in some Catalan texts as a concatenation of the preposition de (contracted form d’) and the plural noun oportunitats. In standard Catalan, the correct contracted form is d'oportunitats when de precedes a word starting with a vowel. The standalone word doportunitats is generally regarded as incorrect in formal writing and normative dictionaries, though it can occur in informal contexts, typographical errors, or OCR misreads.

Etymology and morphology: oportunitats is the plural of oportunitat, derived from Latin opportunitas. When combined with de, Catalan orthography typically contracts de before a vowel to d’ (for example, d’ola, d’ombra). Thus, de oportunitats becomes d'oportunitats. The noncontracted, plural form oportunitats remains correct in phrases without the preposition.

Usage and common issues: doportunitats often results from omission of the apostrophe or from rapid, informal typing. Spell-checkers and style guides generally prefer the contracted d'oportunitats in contexts where de introduces oportunitats, and the bare oportunitats when the preposition is not used or when quoting noun phrases without a preceding de.
