Dominikaner

The Dominikaner, officially known as the Order of Preachers, is a Catholic religious order founded by Saint Dominic in 1216. The order is dedicated to the spread of the faith and the study of theology, philosophy, and the arts. Dominic established the order to combat heresy and to promote a deeper understanding of Christian doctrine among the laity.

The Dominikaner are known for their distinctive black habit, which includes a white tuft on the left side of the hood. This habit is a symbol of their commitment to poverty, chastity, and obedience, the traditional vows of religious life. The order is organized into provinces, each headed by a prior provincial, who reports to the master of the order.

Some notable institutions include the University of Saint Thomas (Angelicum) in Rome, the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C., and the Blackfriars in Oxford, England.
