Dolomítico

Dolomítico refers to anything related to dolomite. Dolomite is a mineral composed of calcium magnesium carbonate, with the chemical formula CaMg(CO3)2. It is an important rock-forming mineral, and the main component of the sedimentary rock dolostone, also known as dolomite rock.

Dolomite is a common mineral found in various geological settings. It is often found in sedimentary sequences, particularly in ancient marine environments where it can form from the alteration of limestone. Dolomite can also occur in hydrothermal veins and as a metamorphic rock. Its occurrence is widespread globally.

The properties of dolomite are similar to calcite, another carbonate mineral. It is typically white to gray or brownish in color and has a vitreous luster. Dolomite is harder than calcite, with a Mohs hardness of 3.5 to 4. It reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid, but generally more slowly and less vigorously than calcite, especially when cold.

In economic geology, dolomite deposits are significant. Dolostone is quarried for use as building stone, dimension stone, and crushed stone for aggregate. It is also used in the production of refractory materials and as a source of magnesium. In agriculture, dolomite is sometimes used as a soil conditioner to raise pH and provide magnesium and calcium. The term "dolomítico" can thus be used to describe rocks, soils, or industrial products derived from or containing dolomite.
