Dolenjska
Dolenjska, or Lower Carniola, is a traditional region in southeastern Slovenia. It forms the southern part of the historic Carniola region and is traversed by the Krka River and its tributaries. The landscape features rolling hills, fertile valleys, vineyards and mixed forests. Novo Mesto serves as the regional center and economic hub, while towns such as Trebnje, Kostanjevica na Krki and Dolenjske Toplice are important local centers. The Krka Valley and nearby karst features contribute to the region’s scenery, and Kostanjevica na Krki is notable for its historic monastery complex along the river.
