DjeserDjeseru

DjeserDjeseru is the ancient Egyptian name for the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, located in Deir el-Bahari on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Luxor. This magnificent structure is renowned for its unique terraced architecture and its prominent position within the Theban Necropolis. Construction of the temple began during the reign of Pharaoh Thutmose I, but it was Queen Hatshepsut, ruling as pharaoh, who is credited with its complete realization in the 15th century BCE.

The temple's design is highly distinctive, featuring three broad terraces connected by ramps, adorned with colonnades and statues. The lower terraces are carved into the cliffs, while the upper terrace houses the sanctuary and a chapel dedicated to Hathor. The reliefs within DjeserDjeseru depict significant events from Hatshepsut's life and reign, including her divine birth, her expedition to the Land of Punt, and the restoration of trade routes.

DjeserDjeseru served as a mortuary temple, where priests performed rituals and made offerings to the deified Hatshepsut and the god Amun.
