Diverting

Diverting is the act or process of turning something away from its planned path, purpose, or use. The term can function as a noun or a present participle form of the verb divert. In general, diverting implies redirecting resources, attention, or flow, sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently.

In civil and environmental engineering, water diversion redirects rivers, streams, or tributaries into artificial channels such as canals or reservoirs.
