Diskpartisjon

Diskpartisjon is a process that divides a physical storage drive, such as a hard disk drive (HDD) or solid-state drive (SSD), into one or more logical sections called partitions. Each partition can be treated by the operating system as an independent storage unit, allowing for better organization and management of data. When a disk is partitioned, a partition table is created on the drive, which contains information about the size, location, and type of each partition.

Common reasons for partitioning a disk include separating the operating system and application files from user data, which can simplify backups and reinstallation of the OS. It also allows for the installation of multiple operating systems on the same drive, with each OS residing in its own partition. Furthermore, partitioning can improve performance by placing frequently accessed files on faster sections of the drive, although this is less relevant with modern SSDs. Different file systems can also be used on separate partitions, offering flexibility in how data is stored and accessed. The process of partitioning is typically handled by disk management utilities provided by operating systems, such as Disk Management in Windows or Disk Utility in macOS.
