Diodorus

Diodorus is a name that can refer to several historical figures, most notably Diodorus Siculus, an ancient Greek historian. Diodorus Siculus was born in Agyrion, Sicily, around 90 BCE and died sometime after 30 BCE. He is primarily known for his monumental universal history, *Bibliotheca historica* (Historical Library), which aimed to recount the history of the world from the mythical beginnings to his own time.

*Bibliotheca historica* was a comprehensive work, divided into forty books, though only the first fifteen and parts of others survive. It covered a vast chronological and geographical scope, drawing on a wide range of sources. Diodorus's work is particularly valuable for its preservation of information not found elsewhere, especially concerning the history of the Near East and Egypt. He organized his history thematically and chronologically, often dedicating entire books to specific regions or periods. His writing style is generally considered straightforward and unadorned, focusing on relaying factual information as he found it.
