Dinversió

Dinversió is a term used chiefly in Catalan-language texts to denote the action, process, or result of reversing an order, orientation, or relation. The precise meaning depends on the discipline.

In genetics, dinversió typically refers to a chromosomal inversion (dinversió cromosòmica in full). This is a structural rearrangement where a segment of a chromosome is reversed relative to its normal orientation. Such inversions can affect gene order and recombination, and may have evolutionary or medical implications.

In mathematics and computer science, the concept of an inverse is central. Although the standard Catalan term is inversió, some authors use dinversió as a variant to emphasize a reverse process or to align with compound terms. The inverse of a function, the multiplicative inverse of a number, or the inverse matrix are examples of this idea.

In linguistics, inversion denotes a reversal of typical word order, such as placing an auxiliary before the subject to form questions or for emphatic or stylistic effect. This use is described in Catalan as inversió or a related syntactic construction, with dinversió appearing in some pedagogical or historic texts.

In economics and finance, dinversió is less common; the standard term is inversió, referring to the allocation of capital or assets.
