Digitális

Digitális is the Hungarian term used to describe anything pertaining to digital technology, data, and media. Derived from the Latin digitus via the English digital, the word denotes information that is represented in discrete values, typically bits, as opposed to analog representations. In Hungarian, digitális is used as both an adjective (digitális adat, digitális jel) and, in some contexts, as a noun to refer to digital technologies as a field (a digitális világ).

Applications span computing, telecommunications, media, and everyday life. Digitális devices process and store information in binary form; digital signals enable computing, mobile networks, and broadcasting. Digitális média encompasses online content, streaming, and digital publishing, while digitális átállás (digital transition) describes the shift of industries and institutions toward digital processes.

Historically, the digital paradigm emerged in the mid-20th century with the development of computer technology and has since transformed economics, education, government, and culture. In Hungary, widespread adoption began in the late 20th century with personal computers, the internet, and the digitization of public services.

Socially, digitális technology raises issues of digital literacy, access gaps (the digital divide), privacy and cybersecurity, and data governance. Policy frameworks and educational initiatives aim to enhance digital skills and ensure inclusive access to digital tools and services.
