Dialízisre refers to the Hungarian word for dialysis, a medical procedure that filters waste products and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys are not functioning properly. This process is essential for individuals with kidney failure, also known as end-stage renal disease. Dialysis works by using a special machine to circulate the patient's blood through an artificial kidney, called a dialyzer. Inside the dialyzer, a semipermeable membrane separates the blood from a dialysis solution, allowing waste products and excess water to pass out of the blood and into the solution, while essential components like red blood cells and proteins remain in the blood. There are two main types of dialysis: hemodialysis, which uses the artificial kidney machine, and peritoneal dialysis, which uses the lining of the abdomen to filter the blood.
