Dialyysikalvon is a hypothetical quasiparticle in condensed matter theory. It is described as a bound state formed when electronic excitations couple to local lattice distortions in certain strongly correlated materials. In proposed models, dialyysikalvon is a composite object with distinct energy scales, bridging particle-like and collective excitations.

Origin and naming: The term was coined in the early 2020s by researchers examining unconventional excitations in two-dimensional oxide heterostructures. The name reflects its dual character as a bound state of electronic and vibrational components.

Theoretical description: A dialyysikalvon is modeled as a charge carrier bound to a localized dipolar lattice field, yielding a quasi-particle with moderate effective mass and a spin-1/2 degree of freedom. Its energy spectrum may feature a mid-gap state separated from the bands by a characteristic energy gap. Interactions with phonons and magnons are predicted to be weak enough for coherent propagation under suitable conditions.

Experimental status: No consensus observation exists. Proposed signatures include features in angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, tunneling conductance, and low-temperature specific heat. Some anomalous spectroscopic features in moiré materials and kagome lattices have been discussed as potential hints, but interpretations remain debated.

Potential significance: If realized, dialyysikalvon could enable new quantum information approaches due to its composite nature and potential coherence, and it may play a role in unconventional transport and energy transfer in correlated materials.
