Devotthani

Devotthani is a significant day observed in Hinduism, marking the end of the Chaturmas period and the beginning of auspicious activities. Chaturmas is a four-month period during the monsoon season when many Hindu deities are believed to be resting. Devotthani Ekadashi, also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi or Devutthana Ekadashi, is the eleventh day of the bright half of the lunar month of Kartik, which typically falls in October or November.

This day commemorates the awakening of Lord Vishnu from his four-month slumber. The word "Devotthani" itself signifies the rising or awakening of the gods. It is believed that Lord Vishnu rises from his cosmic sleep on this day, signaling the end of the auspicious period and the resumption of normal worldly activities, including marriages, religious ceremonies, and other important functions.

The celebrations for Devotthani Ekadashi often involve special prayers and rituals dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Homes are typically cleaned and decorated, and lamps are lit. Devotees observe fasts, recite hymns, and offer prayers to seek blessings for prosperity and well-being. The Tulsi Vivah, the symbolic marriage of the Tulsi plant (holy basil) to Lord Vishnu, is also a prominent ritual performed on or around this day. This ceremony is considered highly auspicious and is believed to bring good fortune to married couples and families. The conclusion of Chaturmas and the beginning of new ventures signify renewal and a return to a more active spiritual and social life for Hindus.
