Devizaoptiók

Devizaoptiók, often translated as currency options, are financial derivatives that give the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell a specified amount of one currency for another at a predetermined exchange rate (the strike price) on or before a certain date. These options are traded on over-the-counter (OTC) markets or on exchanges.

There are two main types of devizaoptiók: call options and put options. A call option gives the holder the right to buy a currency, while a put option grants the right to sell a currency. The buyer of a devizaoptió pays a premium to the seller for this right. The seller, in exchange for the premium, is obligated to fulfill the contract if the buyer chooses to exercise their option.

Devizaoptiók are used by businesses and investors for various purposes, primarily for hedging against foreign exchange risk. For example, an importer who expects to pay a foreign supplier in a few months might buy a call option on the foreign currency to lock in a maximum purchase price, protecting themselves against unfavorable currency movements. Speculators also use devizaoptiók to bet on the future direction of currency exchange rates, aiming to profit from price fluctuations. The value of a devizaoptió is influenced by factors such as the underlying exchange rate, the strike price, the time to expiration, interest rate differentials, and the volatility of the currencies involved.
