Detentionholding

Detentionholding refers to the temporary confinement of individuals by authorities in secure facilities to hold them pending court proceedings, investigations, or removal from a jurisdiction. The term is most often used to refer to pretrial detention in criminal justice and to immigration detention during processing of asylum claims or deportation.

In criminal justice, individuals are placed in detentionholding after arrest or charges and remain until bail, arraignment, or trial. In immigration systems, detainees may be held while eligibility for asylum is determined or while removal orders are executed.
