Depolimerizációja is the process of breaking down a polymer into its constituent monomers or smaller oligomers. Polymers are large molecules made up of repeating structural units called monomers, linked together by chemical bonds. Depolymerization reverses this process, cleaving these bonds to yield the original building blocks. This can occur through various mechanisms, including thermal degradation, chemical reactions, or enzymatic activity.

Thermal depolymerization involves heating the polymer to high temperatures, which provides the energy needed to break the covalent bonds holding the monomers together.
