Deoksyhemoglobiny

Deoksyhemoglobiny refers to hemoglobin that has released its oxygen molecules. Hemoglobin is the protein found in red blood cells responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues. When hemoglobin binds to oxygen in the lungs, it becomes oxyhemoglobin. As blood circulates through the body and reaches tissues with lower oxygen concentrations, the oxygen detaches from the hemoglobin, a process driven by differences in partial pressure. The hemoglobin molecule that has given up its oxygen is then called deoxygenated hemoglobin.

The color of blood changes depending on whether it is oxygenated or deoxygenated. Oxyhemoglobin gives arterial blood its bright red color. Deoxygenated hemoglobin, in contrast, is darker and has a purplish-red hue, which is why venous blood typically appears darker red. This difference in color is significant in medical contexts, such as during pulse oximetry, where the device measures the light absorption of oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin to estimate blood oxygen saturation levels. The efficiency of oxygen release from hemoglobin is influenced by factors like pH, carbon dioxide levels, and temperature, all of which vary in different tissues.
