Demineraliseerimisel refers to the process of removing minerals from water. This is typically achieved through various physical and chemical methods. One common method is ion exchange, where water passes through a resin bed that exchanges mineral ions like calcium and magnesium for hydrogen and hydroxyl ions, effectively removing dissolved salts. Another technique is reverse osmosis, which uses a semi-permeable membrane to separate minerals and other impurities from water under pressure. Distillation is another method, involving heating water to its boiling point, collecting the steam, and then condensing it back into liquid form, leaving the minerals behind. Electrodialysis is also used, employing an electric field to move ions through ion-exchange membranes, separating them from the water. Demineralised water has reduced conductivity and is often used in industrial processes, laboratories, and in the production of pharmaceuticals, food, and beverages where mineral content could interfere with processes or product quality.
