Deltics
Deltics refers to the British Rail Class 55, a class of diesel-electric locomotives built by English Electric at their Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows. These locomotives were primarily used on the East Coast Main Line for express passenger services. The name "Deltic" is derived from the Napier Deltic engines with which they were powered. These engines were a unique design featuring three crankshafts and a highly distinctive, powerful sound. A total of 22 Deltics were built between 1961 and 1962.
