Degrade

In information technology, data or signal degradation means reduced clarity or reliability due to noise or distortion.

Causes include exposure to heat, moisture, ultraviolet radiation, chemicals, mechanical stress, biological activity, and radiation. The rate of degradation depends on material composition, environmental conditions, and protective measures.
