Debianinstallerlocale

Debianinstallerlocale is an informal term used to describe the locale configuration used by the Debian Installer during the installation process. It denotes the language, region, and encoding settings that the installer applies to its user interface and to initial system defaults.

In practice, the installer’s locale is represented in preseeding as the debian-installer/locale value, for example: d-i debian-installer/locale string en_US.UTF-8. The setting selects the installer UI language, the keyboard layout, and the default system locale (the LANG variable and related LC_* settings) that will be generated during installation.

The chosen locale influences translation availability, date and number formats, and other locale-aware behavior during the installation session. It also informs the initial locale configuration of the installed system, though the final system can be adjusted later via /etc/default/locale and /etc/locale.gen if desired.

Notes and context: Debian provides extensive locale data through the locales package, and the installer can present many locales for selection. The term debianinstallerlocale is not a separate package; it is the concept of the locale used by the Debian Installer during the installation process.
