Datuminas
Datuminas are a group of rare silicate minerals characterized by a hydrated aluminum silicate framework with trace iron and magnesium. They are notable for their pale green to colorless crystals and for emitting a weak blue fluorescence under ultraviolet light. The minerals were first described in the late 20th century and have since been the subject of limited but ongoing study in metamorphic geology.
The name Datuminas was proposed to reflect the minerals’ role in documenting metamorphic histories through mineralogical
Physical properties of Datuminas include a Mohs hardness around 6.5 to 7, a vitreous luster, and transparent
Occurrence and geology: Datuminas occur in regional metamorphic rocks, especially in quartz-rich schists and compact veins
Use and research: Due to their rarity, Datuminas are mainly of interest to mineral collectors and researchers.
