Datautbytes are a conceptual unit of information used in discussions of data utility and governance. The term merges data with utility metadata and the traditional byte, to represent a unit of digital content that carries both payload and descriptive information about its usefulness and provenance.

Structure: Each datautbyte has a payload portion containing the actual data, and a metadata portion describing provenance, quality scores, access rights, lineage, schema, and retention rules. The total size is the sum of payload and metadata; metadata overhead can vary by implementation. Some models define a fixed metadata header; others allow optional extensions.
