Dasturning

Dasturning is a term that originates from the Persian language, where "dast" means "hand" and "urning" is derived from "urnayad" which means "to turn" or "to rotate". Thus, dasturning literally translates to "hand turning" or "hand rotation". It is a traditional Persian technique used in various forms of art and craft, particularly in pottery and ceramics.

In pottery, dasturning refers to the method of shaping clay by hand rather than using a potter's wheel. The artisan uses their hands to mold and turn the clay, creating unique and often asymmetrical pieces. This technique allows for a high degree of creativity and individuality in each piece, as the artist can directly manipulate the clay to achieve the desired shape and texture.
