Darwinia

Darwinia is a genus of flowering plants in the myrtle family (Myrtaceae). It comprises several species of shrubs native to southern and southwestern Australia, with a strong concentration in Western Australia. Members of Darwinia vary in size from small shrubs to larger forms, and many species have striking inflorescences with red, pink, or white bracts. The genus was named in honor of Charles Darwin. Several species are cultivated as ornamental plants for gardens and rockeries, though some are rare or endangered due to habitat loss and limited distribution. In Australia, they are typically found in heath and kwongan habitats, often in nutrient-poor sandy soils and in associations with mycorrhizal fungi. Conservation concerns exist for some Darwinia species, and botanical gardens may maintain ex situ collections.
