Damodaradeva

Damodaradeva was a prominent Vaishnava saint and scholar who lived in Assam, India, during the 15th and 16th centuries. He is considered one of the chief disciples of Srimanta Sankardeva, the founder of the Ekasarana Dharma, a reformist sect of Vaishnavism. Damodaradeva played a crucial role in the propagation and institutionalization of this faith across Assam.

Born into a Brahmin family, Damodaradeva received a rigorous traditional education. He encountered Srimanta Sankardeva in his youth and was deeply impressed by his teachings and spiritual prowess. He became one of Sankardeva's most devoted followers, dedicating his life to the service of the faith.

Damodaradeva was known for his profound knowledge of Sanskrit scriptures, his eloquent preaching, and his organizational skills. He established numerous satras, which are monastic institutions central to the Ekasarana Dharma, acting as centers of religious, cultural, and social activities. These satras helped spread Sankardeva's message of devotion, equality, and love to the masses.

He was also a prolific writer, though much of his literary work has been lost over time. His contributions are primarily remembered through oral traditions and the historical records of the satras he founded.
