Dagsljuset

Dagsljuset is the Swedish term for daylight, the natural light provided by the Sun during the daytime. In everyday language it contrasts with natt (night) and mörker (darkness). The definite form dagsljuset can refer to the concept of daylight in general or to the daylight conditions at a particular location and time.

In meteorology and geography, daylight length depends on latitude and time of year. The Sun's path across the sky governs civil daylight—the period when the Sun is above the horizon—and varies widely with seasons. Around the equinoxes, daylight is roughly 12 hours; toward the solstices, daylight lengthens or shortens more sharply. Nearby the poles, phenomena such as the midnight sun in summer and the polar night in winter can extend daylight to 24 hours or reduce it to near darkness. Civil twilight and nautical/astronomical twilight are related concepts describing various levels of light when the Sun is below the horizon.

Culturally, dagsljuset is a common reference in Swedish media and daily life, affecting activities, mood, and design. The term is also used in discussions of daylight saving time, energy policy, and urban planning, where the amount and distribution of daylight influence schedules, architecture, and public spaces.
