Dagerrotípiás

Dagerrotípiás refers to a dagguerreotype, an early photographic process invented by Louis Daguerre and first announced in 1839. It was one of the first commercially successful photographic techniques. The process involved exposing a silver-plated copper sheet, treated with iodine vapor, to light. The resulting latent image was then developed using mercury vapor and fixed with a salt solution or sodium thiosulfate.

Dagguerreotypes were unique images, meaning they could not be reproduced. Each dagguerreotype was a one-of-a-kind object. They were characterized by their sharp detail and often produced a mirror-like surface, making them difficult to view in direct light. The exposure times for early dagguerreotypes were quite long, often several minutes, which made capturing moving subjects challenging. Over time, advancements reduced exposure times, allowing for portraits to be taken more efficiently.

Despite their limitations, dagguerreotypes played a crucial role in the development of photography. They brought accurate and detailed visual representations to the public, transforming portraiture and providing a new way to document people and places. The dagguerreotype era lasted for roughly two decades before being largely superseded by less expensive and more easily reproducible photographic processes like the calotype and later the wet collodion process.
