DOACów
DOACów, or Direct Oral Anticoagulants, are a class of anticoagulant medications that work by inhibiting specific proteins in the blood clotting cascade. Unlike older anticoagulants like warfarin, DOACs do not require routine blood monitoring for dose adjustment. They are prescribed for a variety of conditions where blood clots are a risk, including atrial fibrillation to prevent stroke, and for the treatment and prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
The main types of DOACs target either Factor Xa or thrombin (Factor IIa). Examples of Factor Xa
DOACs offer several advantages, such as predictable pharmacokinetics, a lower risk of certain types of bleeding
