DNSrekordokat, or DNS records, are entries within a Domain Name System (DNS) database. These records act as instructions that tell the internet how to locate and connect to a specific domain name. When you type a website address into your browser, your computer queries DNS servers for the corresponding IP address. DNS records are the fundamental components that enable this translation from human-readable domain names to machine-readable IP addresses.

There are several types of DNS records, each serving a distinct purpose. The most common are A records, which map a domain name to an IPv4 address, and AAAA records, which perform the same function for IPv6 addresses. MX records (Mail Exchanger) specify the mail servers responsible for accepting email messages on behalf of a domain. CNAME records (Canonical Name) create aliases, pointing one domain name to another. TXT records (Text) store arbitrary text, often used for verification purposes like domain ownership or email sender authentication (SPF, DKIM). NS records (Name Server) identify the authoritative DNS servers for a domain. SRV records (Service) locate specific services within a domain. Understanding these different record types is crucial for managing and configuring domain name resolution.
