DINRail

A DIN rail is a standardized metal rail used for mounting industrial control equipment inside electrical enclosures and control panels. It provides a common mounting surface for modular devices such as terminal blocks, relays, circuit breakers, power supplies, and programmable logic controllers, allowing rapid assembly, replacement, and maintenance. DIN rails are defined by international standards, with the most widely referenced being IEC/EN 60715.

The two most common profiles are the top-hat rail (often referred to as TH or TS 35) and the G-profile. The top-hat rail is by far the most widely used in modern panels and has a cross-section that provides a secure clip-in mounting for many devices. Smaller or alternative profiles exist for compact installations, and some legacy equipment continues to use the G-profile. Although the exact dimensions vary by profile, all conform to the general DIN rail family and are designed to accept standardized mounting clips.

Mounting and operation are straightforward: devices with corresponding mounting clips or screw holes slide onto the rail and lock in place, often via a spring clip or screw-based retention. Rail sections are usually attached horizontally or vertically to the enclosure wall, and end stops or brackets are used to prevent modules from sliding off the ends. The rail itself can be cut to length to fit a particular panel, and end caps or brackets may be added for additional stability.

DIN rails enable modular, scalable control systems and are widely used across industries such as manufacturing, building automation, and process control. Their standardized profiles support compatibility across a broad range of devices from many manufacturers.
