DCI

DCI is an acronym with multiple meanings across different domains. The most widely recognized are Digital Cinema Initiatives, a standards consortium for digital cinema, and the historical title Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) for the U.S. intelligence community. The abbreviation is also used for educational roles such as Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and for District of Columbia International School.

Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) is a nonprofit alliance formed in 2002 by major studios to standardize digital cinema. The DCI Digital Cinema System Specification specifies how content is created, distributed, and exhibited. Content is packaged as a Digital Cinema Package (DCP) using JPEG 2000 video, typically at 2K or 4K resolution, with a defined color space and frame rate. Security features include encryption and Key Delivery Messages to control playback. The goal is interoperability among cameras, servers, projectors, and theaters worldwide.

Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) was the title of the head of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1947 until 2005, when the role was replaced by the Director of National Intelligence (DNI). The DCI coordinated the U.S. Intelligence Community and reported to the president and the National Security Council. After 2005, the CIA Director operates under the DNI's leadership.
