In statistics, D95 denotes the 95th percentile of a dataset—the value below which 95% of observations fall. This percentile is used to describe upper-tail behavior, set regulatory thresholds, or define tolerance limits in environmental and quality assessments.

In particle-size analysis and soil science, D95 describes the particle size at which 95% of the sample's mass consists of smaller particles. It is part of a family of size descriptors such as D10, D50, and D90 that characterize a material’s particle-size distribution. D95 is commonly used to specify material quality in industries like ceramics, cement, pharmaceuticals, and geotechnical testing.

In medical radiotherapy, D95 is a dose-volume metric indicating the minimum dose delivered to 95% of the planning target volume (PTV). It helps evaluate whether the prescribed dose adequately covers the tumor while limiting exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. D95 is often reported alongside other dose metrics, such as D98 or D2, to summarize dose distribution within a treatment plan.
