D30

A d30 is a 30-sided die used to generate an integer between 1 and 30 in tabletop gaming. Like other polyhedral dice, it is designed to provide a roughly uniform probability for each face when rolled.

The typical form of a d30 is the rhombic triacontahedron, a polyhedron with 30 rhombic faces. This shape is favored for a 30-sided die because it allows a fair roll and simple labeling of faces. Numbers are printed on the faces so that every outcome from 1 to 30 is possible, and the die is manufactured to ensure balanced distribution of results.

In game use, a d30 is not as common as dice such as the d20 or d6, but it appears in certain role-playing game systems and board games that require a 1–30 outcome or a flexible mapping to larger probability tables. Some players use a d30 to replace multiple rolls or to provide a single-roll resolution for actions with a wide range of results.

Manufacture and variants: d30 dice are produced in various materials, including plastic, resin, and metal, with different fonts and color schemes. While the standard is a single die producing 1–30, some sets include alternative numbering schemes or color-coded faces to aid reading or to indicate special outcomes.
