Cyanidlösungen

Cyanidlösungen, also known as cyanide solutions, are aqueous solutions containing cyanide ions (CN-) or cyanide compounds dissolved in water. These solutions are widely used in various industrial processes due to the unique chemical properties of cyanide.

The most common cyanide compounds found in these solutions are alkali metal cyanides, such as sodium cyanide (NaCN) and potassium cyanide (KCN). These salts are highly soluble in water, readily dissociating into metal cations and cyanide anions.

Cyanide solutions are extensively employed in the mining industry for the extraction of precious metals like gold and silver through a process called cyanidation. In electroplating, they serve as electrolytes for depositing metal coatings, particularly for copper, zinc, and cadmium. The leather industry utilizes cyanide solutions in tanning processes. Furthermore, they find applications in chemical synthesis as reagents and in the production of certain plastics and pharmaceuticals.

However, cyanide solutions are highly toxic. The cyanide ion is a potent inhibitor of cellular respiration, interfering with the body's ability to utilize oxygen. Proper handling, storage, and disposal procedures are critical to prevent accidental exposure and environmental contamination. Strict regulations govern the use and management of cyanide solutions in all industries.
