Csuglás

Csuglás, also known as *chucking* or *chucking the ball*, is a traditional Hungarian folk game that has been played for centuries, particularly in rural areas. The game is typically played by two teams, though variations exist where individuals or larger groups compete. It is often associated with festivals, harvest celebrations, and other communal gatherings, serving as both entertainment and a way to foster community spirit.

The basic objective of csuglás is to throw a small, round object—traditionally a wooden ball or a stone—into a designated target, usually a hole in the ground or a marked area. Players take turns throwing the object from a set distance, and points are awarded based on how close the throw lands to the target. The team or player with the highest score after a set number of attempts wins. In some regional variations, the target might be a basket, a bucket, or even a specific structure like a wooden post.
