Csillósejtek

Csillósejtek, also known as ciliated cells, are specialized eukaryotic cells that possess cilia. Cilia are small, hair-like appendages that protrude from the surface of these cells. They are typically numerous and beat in a coordinated fashion, allowing for the movement of the cell itself or the propulsion of substances across the cell's surface.

The structure of cilia is complex, consisting of a basal body anchored in the cytoplasm and a shaft made of microtubules arranged in a characteristic 9+2 pattern. This arrangement of microtubules is crucial for the ciliary beating mechanism, which involves the sliding of these filaments against each other.

Csillósejtek are found in a wide variety of organisms and play diverse roles. In single-celled organisms like Paramecium, cilia are used for locomotion and to sweep food particles into the oral groove. In multicellular organisms, they are essential for many physiological processes. For example, in the respiratory tract of mammals, ciliated epithelial cells line the airways, propelling mucus and trapped debris upward to be expelled. In the female reproductive system, ciliated cells in the fallopian tubes help to move the egg towards the uterus. Csillósejtek can also be found in the central nervous system, where they contribute to the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid. The coordinated action of cilia is vital for maintaining tissue homeostasis and function. Disruptions in ciliary function can lead to various diseases, often referred to as ciliopathies.
