Csavak

Csavak is the Hungarian word for screws, a class of fasteners that convert rotational motion into linear force by engaging with a threaded hole or nut. They are used to join materials such as wood, metal, and plastic in mechanical, construction, and electronics applications.

Common types include wood screws, designed with tapered bodies and coarse threads; machine screws, with uniform diameter and requiring nuts or tapped holes; and self-tapping screws, which cut their own thread in metal or plastic. Screw heads come in various shapes—countersunk (flat), pan, round—and drive styles such as slotted, Phillips, Pozidriv, Torx, and hex. The choice depends on material, load, and tooling.

Materials range from carbon steel and stainless steel to brass, aluminum, and high-strength alloys. Finishes and coatings, such as zinc plating, galvanizing, or black oxide, improve corrosion resistance and appearance. For electronics and cabinetry, plastic or nylon screws may be used.

Thread standards are governed by international bodies. ISO metric threads (designations such as M6) are common worldwide; other systems include DIN, ANSI, and JIS. Threads are described by diameter and pitch and can be coarse or fine. Selection also considers environmental exposure, load, shear, and vibration.
