Csalánkiütés

Csalánkiütés, also known as urticaria or hives, is a common skin reaction characterized by the sudden appearance of raised, itchy welts on the skin. These welts, often referred to as wheals, can vary in size and shape and may appear anywhere on the body. The intense itching is a hallmark symptom, and some individuals may also experience a burning or stinging sensation.

The underlying cause of csalánkiütés is typically the release of histamine and other inflammatory substances from mast cells in the skin. This release leads to increased blood flow and fluid leakage into the surrounding tissues, forming the characteristic wheals. Triggers for this reaction are diverse and can include allergens such as certain foods, medications, insect bites, or environmental factors like pollen and mold. In some cases, physical stimuli like pressure, heat, cold, or sunlight can also provoke an outbreak. Viral infections are another frequent cause, particularly in children.

The diagnosis of csalánkiütés is usually based on the characteristic appearance of the rash and a review of the patient's medical history and potential triggers. While most cases resolve on their own within hours or days, chronic urticaria can persist for weeks, months, or even years. Treatment often involves antihistamines to alleviate itching and reduce swelling. In more severe or persistent cases, other medications like corticosteroids or immunosuppressants might be prescribed. Identifying and avoiding specific triggers is a crucial part of managing recurrent episodes.
