Crownlands

Crownlands refers to the region of Westeros that lies under the direct authority of the Iron Throne. In the political map of the realm, it comprises the lands surrounding the capital, King’s Landing, and to a historical extent includes nearby seats such as Dragonstone. The Crownlands are located along the eastern coastline of the continent, facing the Narrow Sea, and are among the most densely populated and strategically significant parts of the realm.

King’s Landing is the administrative center and principal port, serving as the capital and seat of the king. Other notable locations include the island fortress of Dragonstone and various towns along the coast and inland routes connected to the capital by the kingsroad and sea lanes.

Until recent conflicts, the Crownlands were governed directly by the Iron Throne; local affairs were administered by appointed royal officials who answered to the monarch and the Small Council. Nobles within the Crownlands held lands at the Crown’s pleasure and owed fealty to the crown.

Economy centers on maritime trade, customs, and services associated with the port of King's Landing. Agriculture exists in surrounding areas, as does shipbuilding and provisioning for the realm's fleets. The region's proximity to trade routes gives it influence in commerce and surveillance.

Historically, the Crownlands have been the political heart of the realm. Kings and queens have resided in King's Landing for centuries, and the region has repeatedly changed hands during wars and succession crises, including notable sieges and the War of the Five Kings, which saw campaigns around the capital and its approaches.
