Croatian-Hungarian refers to individuals, communities, or cultural phenomena that embody a blend of Croatian and Hungarian heritage. The term is most commonly used to describe the Croat population residing in Hungary, a recognized national minority that has maintained its distinct linguistic and cultural identity since the early 16th century. Conversely, the Hungarian minority in Croatia, particularly in the counties of Vukovar-Syrmia and Dubrovnik-Neretva, also shares this dual identity.

Historically, the movement of peoples across the Danube and the shifting borders of the Habsburg and Austro-Hungarian empires facilitated intermarriage and cultural exchange. The Treaty of Trianon in 1920 formalized minority rights, granting Croats in Hungary and Hungarians in Croatia protection for language education, public signage, and representation in local government. Today, the Croatian-Hungarian community actively preserves its language by organizing schools, cultural societies, and media outlets such as the weekly newspaper "Sabor" in Hungarian-speaking Croatians.

Linguistically, the Croatian-Hungarian dialects often exhibit hypercorrection, code-switching, and loanwords from each other’s languages, reflecting a long-standing bilingual environment. In the fields of music, literature, and cuisine, cross-cultural influences are evident; for example, the traditional Croatian song "Lijepa li si" is sometimes performed with Hungarian harmonies, while Hungarian paprika is a staple in many Croatian households in the border region.

Notable Croatian-Hungarian figures include footballer Mario Mandžukić, celebrated for his dual citizenship, and historian András Goodrich, whose research on South Slavic minorities in Central Europe underscores the complex historical ties between Croatia and Hungary. The Croatian-Hungarian identity remains a dynamic example of how intertwined histories can create vibrant, hybrid cultural landscapes.
