Countertooling

Countertooling refers to the practice of using tools or techniques to counteract or neutralize the effects of other tools or techniques, often in the context of security or competitive strategies. In cybersecurity, countertooling involves developing and deploying defensive measures that specifically address and disable offensive tools or exploit methods. This could range from creating signature-based detection for malware to developing more sophisticated behavioral analysis to identify and block malicious activity even when novel tools are employed.

The goal of countertooling in security is to maintain an advantage by understanding and mitigating threats.
