Cortexverkoston

Cortexverkoston is a transnational network of researchers and institutions devoted to cortical neuroscience, computational modeling, and related data science. The network aims to advance understanding of cortical circuits, support collaboration, and promote open-science practices across the Nordic region.

Formed in the early 2010s, cortexverkoston brings together universities, research institutes, and hospitals engaged in brain research. Members collaborate on joint projects, share resources such as data sets, software tools, and high-performance computing facilities, and coordinate training opportunities for students and postdocs.

Activities include an annual symposium, thematic working groups, and joint grant applications. The network operates a centralized portal for project information and data standards, and it fosters interdisciplinary links between experimental neuroscience, theoretical modeling, and computational engineering.

Governance is organized through a steering committee elected by member institutions, complemented by advisory boards representing clinicians, ethicists, and data governance experts. Funding comes from national research agencies, European Union programs, and partner institutions.

Cortexverkoston has contributed to multi-site studies of cortical development and plasticity and has played a role in developing data-sharing practices and standards within its member community.
