CortexA73

The Cortex-A73 is a central processing unit (CPU) core designed by Arm Holdings. It is part of the Armv8-A architecture and was announced in May 2016. The Cortex-A73 is a 64-bit processor that focuses on performance per watt efficiency and is intended for mobile devices, smartphones, and tablets. It succeeded the Cortex-A72 core and offered notable improvements in performance and power consumption.

Key features of the Cortex-A73 include its microarchitecture, which is a dynamically scheduled, out-of-order execution design. It has a deep pipeline and a wide execution engine to maximize instruction-level parallelism. The core is designed to be energy-efficient, making it suitable for battery-powered devices. It supports various Armv8-A instruction sets, including NEON for SIMD operations.

The Cortex-A73 is often used in a big.LITTLE configuration, paired with more power-efficient Arm cores, such as the Cortex-A53 or Cortex-A55, to balance performance and battery life. This arrangement allows the system to utilize the high-performance Cortex-A73 cores for demanding tasks and switch to the efficient cores for less intensive operations. It has been widely adopted by semiconductor manufacturers for use in their system-on-chips (SoCs).
